BUSTER PROGRAM GETS FIRST EVER TEXAS
COMMITMENT
They
have come from as close as Garden City and from as far away as Brazil. Some of
the states include New Mexico, Michigan and Louisiana. Which
ever way you want to slice it, players from all
over have descended into the Buster Soccer programs over the course of the
first three years of their existence. However, a recruit has never popped up
from the state that is only 1 hour and 45 minutes from Garden City-----until
now.
Marissa
Castillo-an attacking center midfielder from San Angelo, Texas- becomes the
first ever soccer commitment from the great state of Texas for the entire
Buster Soccer program. Castillo has played the last six years for the club
team-San Angelo United. Her sophomore and junior years, the team competed in
the Highland Girls Classic League and followed that up by playing in the West
Texas Soccer League in her senior year.
Castillo
has competed since her freshman season for Lake View High School, a team that
competes in District 4A. Castillo has garnered some solid honors throughout her
high school career. In her freshman season, she was named District 4A Newcomer
of the Year, while being named to the Marble Falls All Tournament Team. Her
sophomore season saw her be named First Team All District (6 teams in district)
and achieved Marble Falls All Tournament Team honors for a second straight
season. Her junior season saw her named Second Team All District. In her senior
season, she was named MVP of the Marble Falls Tournament (8 teams) AND was
named as Co-District MVP---as her high school team made
it to the third round of district playoffs….
Head
Women’s Coach Jeff Huffman states, “I had the opportunity to see Marissa
compete in the Arlington Showcase in December 2007. I was in definite need of
an attacking midfielder for the fall 2008 season, as I felt it imperative for
the team to get Irma Reyes-a Kansas 2007 Class 6A Second Team All State
selection-back to her normal stopper position. Her receiving Co-District MPV
honors is quite the honor. This honor helps prove that Marissa is exactly the
caliber of attacking midfielder I need to-not only score goals for us-but be
the link to our forwards.
