Coach
Jim Boy Hash grew up in the small Texas Panhandle town of Canadian,
where he had a successful high school rodeo career. Qualifying for
state finals in steer wrestling and saddle bronc riding, and competing
in the national finals in steer wrestling.
Coach
Hash advanced to Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, before
transferring to Panhandle State University, Goodwell, Ok. While
at PSU, he not only had a coaching relationship, but also a friendship
with the legendary rodeo coach Dr. R Lynn “Doc” Gardner.
After three years of rodeo under Gardner’s leadership, he
had won the regional steer wrestling championship in 1994 and 95,
helped his team to a second place finish in the nation, and served
a two-year term as regional student director, earning an extra year
of eligibility. After his graduation in 1995, Hash was invited to
stay on as Gardner’s assistant, where he served until the
veteran coaches death in 1996.
He accepted an assistant coaching position in Douglas, Az. at Cochise
College in 1996, where he helped guide the Apache women’s
team to another college national finals rodeo qualification for
the 1996-97 season.
Hash next moved to Kansas where he became a member of the Buster
Rodeo Coaching staff after the retirement of long time GCCC head
coach Norman Staats.
This
is Coach Hash’s ninth year at GCCC, and his third as head
coach. Over the past nine years, the rodeo team has more than doubled
in size, and has qualified competitors for the CNFR four of the
last six years. Coach Hash is looking forward to this year of rodeo
and said he is expecting some good things from his team.
Coach
Hash and wife, Jessica, have a six-year old son, Jaylyn and a two-year son Jaytyn.
