Former Buster Earns NCBWA
All-American Honors
Former Broncbuster Dusty Washburn was tabbed NCAA Division II Honorable Mention All-American at first base this past spring for the Fort Hays State University Tigers. Washburn originally from Hays, KS played for the Buster’s from 2004-2006. As a freshman he hit .385 with 12 doubles, 9 homeruns, and 57 RBI’s for Garden City. This past spring for Fort Hays Washburn hit .383 with 19 doubles, 19 homeruns, 59 RBI’s, and a .762 slugging percentage. Washburn will be back in the lineup for the Tigers again this spring.

Busters Finishing Professional Seasons
Aaron Breit Brandon Buckman Luke Gorsett
Former Broncbuster baseball players Aaron Breit, Brandon Buckman, and Luke Gorsett have recently finished their professional seasons. Breit, who played at Garden City from 2005-2006, completed his third season with the San Diego Padres Organization. Drafted in 2004 and 2005 by the Padres, Breit spent the 2008 season with the Fort Wayne Wizards of the Midwest League. Aaron started five games for the Wizards and came out of the pen in another twenty-two.
Brandon Buckman (2003-2004), who has been a member of the St. Louis Cardinals organization since June of 2006, spent a majority of the past season with the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Hi A Florida State League. On August 6th, 2008 Buckman was promoted to Double A Springfield (MO) where he hit .321 in eighty-four at bats for the Cardinals.
Luke Gorsett played at Garden City from 2004-2005 and was named First Team All-American in 2005. He continued his playing career at the University of Nebraska where he was a seventh round pick by the Cardinals in 2006. Gorsett reached Double A Springfield this year for the Cardinals where he played in twenty-five games. He had seven homeruns and thirty-eight RBI’s between two levels this year.

Busters Open 2008 Fall Season
The 2008-2009 Garden City Community College baseball team began school on August 13th. The Busters started practicing the following week and opened up their fall season September 3rd at Pratt Community College. The 2008 fall slate is another competitive one with fourteen dates scheduled against teams from Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska. The fall schedule allows the team the opportunity to play against other Junior Colleges from around the Midwest as well as area high school teams. Many of these games are attended by four year college coaches and professional scouts. The 2008 fall schedule is highlighted by the Fort Hays State University tournament on September 20th as well as the Sophomore All-Star weekend October 3-5 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
