ACCOMPLISHMENTS during 2004-2005
Helping Students Learn
· Implemented KeyTrain software as a supplement to WorkKeys testing.
· Led EduKan public relations/advertising team during increase of 20 percent in online program enrollment.
· Booked approximately 180 events/activities in the BTSC.
· Selected and provided academic, personal, and career counseling to the 200 SSS participants.
· Retained 82% of the SSS non-graduates and helped 73 participants who transferred.
· 89% of SSS participants graduated, transferred, or continued in college with a 2.0 or better GPA.
· SSS students received 2,512 hours of personal, career, academic, transfer and financial aid counseling.
· GCCC PTK chapter member Hieu Doan earned New Century Scholar award for Kansas.
· Restructured SGA executive council to provide greater involvement and cooperation on event planning.
· Implemented/delivered Paramedic program via Telenet II to 2 DCCC, 3 SCCC, and 4 GCCC students.
· Graduated the first class of EMT-Paramedics Spring May 2005 and first class of LPN students October 2004.
· CJ enrollment for 2004-2005 increased with retention of 2003-2004 freshmen doubling for 2004-2005.
· Assisted with review/translation of RETA Operator I Spanish textbook; developing Operator I in Spanish.
· Piloted ATI comprehensive assessment/review in Nursing to support student success and retention.
· Achieved 95% retention rate in the Cosmetology program; 100% in Manicuring during the fall of 2004.
· 2004 Meats Team won reserve champion at Beef Empire Days contest; named 2nd in All-American.
· Automotive achieved NATEF certification; created smart classrooms and opened second computer lab.
· Automotive retained approximately 90% of its program students from Fall 2004-Spring 2005.
· Hired Bilingual Case Manager for WKOS to increase Hispanic enrollment in occupational training.
· WKOS awarded $86,879 to provide employment, education, training to adults and dislocated workers.
· Over 30 mrktg/mgmt students participated in 1,732 hours of community service/service learning projects.
· 12 students participated and won the SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) regional competition in NYC.
· Baseball team had 5th highest GPA in nation and was a national NJCAA Academic All-American Team.
· Women’s basketball graduated 100% of its sophomore athletes.
· CECS provided opportunities to 4,519 individuals; generated approximately $1,620,000 in grant funds.
· Allied Health increased certification pass rate from 91 to 96% with new CMA curriculum.
· Allied Health implemented a 6th grade reading level for CNA; developed the first IV Certification class for LPN.
· $47,000 KBOR grant awarded to FCLS for Health Science Career Pathway.
· 80% of graduates in ETS & UB entered postsecondary education, 29 at GCCC.
· 60% of UB participants increased their overall GPA; 65% have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
· FCCLC opened a new facility for classes in East Garden Village; FCCLC provided classes to 1,177 adults in ABE, GED, and ESL classes; scheduled transition activities with approximately 300 students.
· SBDC served 180 clients for 1,683 hours in 2004, surpassing all goals; 24 new businesses, added 136 jobs/saved 180 existing jobs, $20.2 million in sales; invested over $7.2 million in loans/ equity financing.
· SWKRPC supported more than 5,000 students through events & presentations; prevention programs for more than 500 students; rotating message center reaches more than 200 residential life students weekly.
· 5 All-Americans: 1 baseball, 3 football, 1 volleyball; 12 Academic All-Americans: 4 baseball, 2 football, 2 softball, 2 volleyball, 2 women’s basketball; 5 rodeo athletes finished in top 10 standings in event.
· Torre Johnson named Freshman Player of the Year, picked pre-season 1st Team All-American.
· Women’s basketball ranked in the top 25 for third straight year; baseball reached Final Four two years in a row.
· Football player Anthony Kilby was named offensive lineman of the year for KJCCC.
· Completion of successful Hi-Plains League Tournament; 22 teams; over 10,000 patrons.
· Majority of sophomore football players continue their education and playing at other four-year colleges.
Leading and Communicating
· Processed 1,235 admission applications, 200+ EduKan and 688 incoming transcripts (Aug 04-Jan 05).
· Produced GCCC broadcast signature jingle
· Successfully completed Front Door Project election information campaign with community committee.
· Checked out game equipment in the BTSC 1,195 times.
· Presented 24 Sexually Transmitted Disease/AIDS prevention/awareness classes.
· Awarded $4 million in federal programs and $5.5 million in total aid resources to 1,835 GCCC students.
· Conducted 9 high school financial aid information nights, reaching 289 attendees.
· Processed 1,828 official transcripts for a total of $8,938 and 1,265 unofficial transcripts (as of 01/31/05).
· Proposed and began publishing series of regular newspaper columns (26 annually), published 14-part series of enrollment ads.
· Provided monthly lists to coaches showing their athletes’ account statuses and reminding them of deadlines to avoid holds.
· Worked with staff across campus cleaning up duplicate records and vendor data through the requirement for vendor information forms.
· Gradual upgrading of campus phones from analog to digital, office moves, running new lines, and moving telephones.
· Printed over 454 printing jobs including over 46 promotional pieces for Business & Industry and Continuing Education Community Services.
· Met color printing demand, producing over 117 different full color promotional materials for departments including Admissions, and other academic programs.
· Completed 2,311,663 copies requested in Copy Center--approximately a 10% increase for faculty and staff.
· Implemented campus office supply center services and delivery including moving office supplies to Print Shop
· Developed and began operation of a new central receiving and delivery system in cooperation with maintenance department.
· Researched and purchased digital copier/printer to update printing processes and replace the old large press.
· Integrated EMST, Fire Science and Criminal Justice into one division.
· Attended trade shows to monitor industry trends and promote program; provided tour for Leadership Kansas.
· Set up State of Kansas testing for Construction Trades, Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical.
· Agronomy/Agri-business courses increased enrollment by 50%.
· The speech department obtained a United Nations grant $$$$ to host on-campus political debates.
· Mass communications students produced state and national award winning newspapers and magazines.
· Breakaway staff competed for a 3rd consecutive first place finish in statewide competition.
· Assisted area historical societies with archival work and artifact restoration, consulted in/appeared in a PBS documentary on Finney County
· School Maestro and Blackboard are being successfully used in classes across campus.
· Entrepreneurship clubs are being established in area high schools through the business division.
· Hosted the 9th annual Southwest Kansas Business Contest for about a hundred area high school students.
· Hosted the 4th annual Science Olympiad for area high school and middle school students.
· Hosted the 1st annual science competition for Finney County 4th graders.
· Mounted four student exhibitions in the Beth Tedrow Student Center.
· Produced a full-scale musical running for nine performances involving students and community members.
· Reinstated spring scholarship show benefiting performing arts students; expanded patron support.
· Offered 69 scholarships totaling $3,215 to Kids’ College participants by partnering with 21 local businesses.
· FCCLC secured two AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers to aide in student recruitment and services.
· SBDC presented 17 training events with 289 attendees, exceeding the annual goal for seminars conducted.
· SWKRPC maintained an online searchable data base and website which had 37,000 hits this year.
Planning Continuous Improvement
· Developing GCCC as the CPAT Regional Testing site for firefighters and potential firefighter recruits.
· Full implemented CAI and assessment prep computer-based learning in Penka computer lab.
· Two-year line schedules have been sequenced to meet the needs of the community and students.
· Conducted on-going curriculum revisions as directed by industry advisory committees.
· Language faculty visited work sites to establish Command Spanish needs.
· Purchased art for college buildings.
· A computerized box office program was initiated and utilized.
· Established the Southwest Kansas Music Academy; organized a Tuba Christmas community concert.
· Bryan Education Center (BEC) received a donation of a parking lot from Bryan family; BEC used by 39 organizations
and over 1,900 patrons.
· SWKRPC assisted southwest Kansas communities in leveraging about $50,000 in resources for prevention.
· Student loan default rate reduced from 11.9% to 8.3% with assistance from third-party intervention.
· Successfully moved GED testing from the FCCLC to GCCC Assessment Center.
· Established Assessment Center.
· Represented GCCC at 43 College Planning Conferences and 101 High School Visits (Sept 04-Jan 05), contacting over 1,500 students.
· Installed Contribute software for campus-wide website input and trained four departments/divisions.
· Sent over 6,000 letters to high school seniors to keep them informed of steps to college admissions.
· Purchased and implemented computerized sign-in system in Counseling/Advising for better data collection.
· Developed transfer manual to disseminate information to students on making a successful transfer.
· Completed final liquidation of the Perkins Student Loan Program.
· Completed process to convert/digitize microfilmed transcripts to CD-ROM.
· Planted 25 new trees on campus, transplanted trees, planted flowers in the round planters at the center mall.
· Set up central shipping and receiving.
· Sorted keys and updated key control forms and process.
· Began landscaping, mulching, drip irrigation installation.
· Entered data to reports to keep track of mileage and maintenance.
· Classified positions according to new FLSA regulations.
· Implemented Phase I of HR Datatel conversion – payroll, position numbering and automation of payroll deductions remittance processing.
· Spyware problems reduced and better clean up tools, sped up automation of hot fixes and software deployment.
· Reduced the downtime of virus attacks and spyware adware hijackers, reduced the downtime of most campus pc’s.
· Imported four years of historic data from the CARS system to Datatel.
· Imported payroll, student system and Endowment transactions monthly from the CARS system to Datatel.
· Secured financing for the Front Door project.
· Completed year accident-free in print shop.
· Met demands with Maintenance for delivery of packages across campus, including daily delivery of packages to Technical Building.
· Resurfaced gym floors in the winter instead of summer, sanding and refinishing of stage floor.
· Assisted 60 students with special needs, 15 of which had multiple or major disabilities.
· Assisted with staffing; payroll processed for 869 individuals for a total of $9.6 million, processed payroll for 274 adjunct contracts – credit and non-credit.
