PROJECTIONS 2006 AND BEYOND
- Cooperate with local physician to obtain
part-time coverage of health office
Justification: Health care in Garden City is very difficult to access. Even with
insurance, Garden Medical requires first time patients to pay the office call
of $60.00 and all expenses until deductible is met. Having a physician visit
campus would allow triage by the student health nurse with necessary referrals
to physician at minimal physician time. We live in a rural area where students
do not "pick and choose" where healthcare is involved. Many times
the student is referred to the emergency room. With insurance, parents do not
understand why they have incurred an emergency room bill of $150.00+. Without
insurance, an unpaid bill goes on the student's credit report.
Cost:
Estimates based on other college reports are approximately $5000.00/semester
for 2
hours weekly.
