Learner Success

 

n     Redesigned the clean up roster to help assist in effectiveness of process

n     Provided advising, career and personal counseling to students

n     Collaborated with Learning Services division to begin the implementation of an Assessment center

n     Taught Career Orientation, College Skills Development, Student Leadership curriculum and Addiction Counseling certification courses

n     Provided presentations to College Skills classes on test taking, relationships and college/career information

n     Provided presentations to Ag students on developing a resume and interviewing skills

n     Continued SGA State Association

n     Continued New Student Orientation

n     Conducted Garden City High School spring/summer and Fall enrollments

n     Served on the multicultural conference committee and SANE/SART team

n     Worked with ETS to serve new students by referring students to ETS who were in need of financial aid assistance

n     Wrote and received a grant to have the crisis management plans printed

n     Coordinated with Title III grant program to provide advisor training

n     Provided advisor training to outreach sites for adjunct faculty

n     Transitioned assessment out of Counseling/Advising

n     Chaired and/or served on 9 campus committees

Helping Students Learn

 

n     Work with the technical division to provide their students with workshops on resume writing and interviewing skills

n     Develop an undecided student College skills development class

n     Develop a Residence Hall lecture series

n     Expose students to different colleges and careers via videos shown in CRC, library or student center

n     Solicit Discovery program to College Skills Development instructors and KidÕs College director.

■    Provide more on-line academic and personal counseling via the GCCC website

 

 

Leading and Communicating

 

n     Develop a crisis plan training for campus

n     Develop a Southwest Kansas Response Plan with area counselors

n     Host screening days on Eating disorders, AOD, depression

n     Provide Discover training for TRIO staff

n     Teach career exploration and leadership classes for Kids College

n     Establish a regular article in the GCCC Silhouette, as well as area high school papers to enhance knowledge of GCCC academic opportunities and events as well as give preparatory information for colleges/careers

n     Establish and conduct a student survey of needs and services

n     Co-sponsor/present at the 8th grade career fair

n     Establish a seminar for parents of GCCC (incoming) student giving them information about financial aid, GCCC degree opportunities, student organizations, etc.

Planning Continuous Improvement

 

n     Implement the computerized sign in program for better data collection

n     Conduct GCHS and HHS spring and summer/fall enrollment

n     Redesign advising process and examine the advisee assignment process

n     Organize a college application workshop for students preparing to transfer to 4-year institutions

n     Collaborate with Title III to provide satellite workshops on retention, advising and student activities

n     Hire a student services secretary to be shared between Counseling/Advising, Admissions and Records. This person will transition over to the Front door and serve as the greeter and liaison once the building is opened and continue to serve the same areas.

Counseling/Advising Projections for 2006

 

n     Look at training student advisors to assist with enrollment and advising process

n     Transform the CRC to be have easier access to transfer information/ Reorganize CRC so that it is more user friendly and visible/welcoming to students

■    Develop advisor training ÒsessionsÓ Ð online or personal Ð for faculty use (e.g. New employee orientation to advising resources)

n     Offer mental health workshops

n     Initiate group counseling for students on issues such as test taking anxiety, stress management, grief, etc.

n     Update computers in the CRC and promote workshops, classes and instructors to utilize the space

n     Continue to diversify the web page

n     Continue to work with different departments and committees on campus to develop alumni office that can assist with job search, mentoring and placement

n     Continue to refine the Freshmen orientation

n     Update CRC resources and computers

n     Help organize campus events related to community and student needs

n     Reorganize counseling materials in the library so that students recognize their availability and can utilize them independently

            Personnel

n     Hire a student services secretary that will be a multi-purpose staff member. They will be shared between Counseling/Advising, Admissions and Registrar. They will be housed in the lobby of the library, but will serve each of the three student services departments. This position will transition to the new Front door of the campus and continue to serve all three programs as well as serve as the front desk liaison once the building is complete.
