Learner Success Ð

            áHispanic Student Day Ð attended by 260 high school students from SW Kansas

            áArrange for speakers during Hispanic Student Day Ð and 21 mini workshops

            áAttend USHLI annual student leadership conference in Kansas City, MO

            áParticipate in Student Government Association activities on campus

            áHomecoming Queen

            áOffered Fall Finals Study Break

            áAttended Big 12 BSU Conference

            áAwarded intramural championship t-shirt to all event winners.

            á Took 6 students to National Conference on Student Services

            á Two students returned from National Conference as nationally certified student leaders

            á Developed and offered a student leadership curriculum for student leaders

            á Had weekly meetings with the executive officers and organizations

            á Maintained involvement in GC Company project giving 8 grants to local non-profit

            organizations and 3 on campus departments

            á Provided Earth Day Picnic and Talent Show

            á Students served on the Student Center opening committee

            á Offered free donuts and Finals week pizzas to students for stress relief

            á Sent PTK students to state and national conference

 

Strengthening College Processes Ð

            áHispanic Student Day Ð attended by 260 high school students from SW Kansas

            áParticipated in Student Government meetings throughout the year

            áAssisted in planning for the Grand Opening of the new Student Center

            áMeet with prospective students when they make campus visits

            áStudent representatives on college committees

áFall Kick-off Picnic

            áCoordinated Celebrity Jail

áScheduled, promoted, and conducted events for individual and team participation which included: Yahtzee, free throw contest, 3 point contest, H-O-R-S-E tournament, Frisbee golf, bocce, horseshoes, and a Co-Ed volleyball tournament.. .

 

á Institutional membership to the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) was extended for another calendar year.

Purchased equipment for nine holes of Frisbee golf and offered as a new event.

á Purchased equipment for horseshoes and bocce and offered as new events.

á Organized a Co-Ed Volleyball tournament during the weekend before finals, which was a new team sport offering

á Collaborated with other departments and organizations to organize and enhance freshman orientation

á Provided an on-campus picnic to bring students, faculty and staff together

á Approved and funded three new organizations through SGA

á Offered two Bowl mania nights with over 200 students in attendance at each

á Offered two Skate nights with over 250 in attendance at each

á Assisted with and offered incentives for involvement with the campus Bloodmobile

á Offered a Fear Factor fundraiser

áCoordinated a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament & 3 point Shoot Out

áProvided Black History Month Events

á Incorporated students from officiating class into the Co-Ed Volleyball tournament

á Provided a nationally renowned mentalist with 250 in attendance

á Organized and coordinated the Homecoming parade and half-time festivities

á Provided a comedian for campus and community with 75 in attendance

á Coordinated the Homecoming Speaker (Barry Switzer) with over 1,000 in attendance

á Coordinated the Dillons delivery of Valentines flowers as a fundraiser for the Garden City

Company project

Helping Students Learn

 

áSponsor activities to educate the Garden City Community College campus on issues regarding Black History and Black Culture

áInvolve students in event planning, promotion, management, and evaluation of intramural events.

áContinue to offer 2-3 individual participation events each month.

áContinue to plan and organize Hispanic Student Day activities

á Continue to attend Leadership conferences when they are available

á Continue to serve on college committees

á Continue to be involved in Student Government Association

á Form a student committee to address safety and security issues as well as landscaping issues

á Provide student scholarships for involvement and assistance with freshman orientation

 

 

 

 

 

Leading and Communicating

áIncrease size of regular participants in BSU, to include non-traditional students in group (current 15Ñgoal 30)

áConduct a student interest survey to determine which type of activities would be most successful.

 

áOrganize at least one major team sport event each semester.

á Continue involvement with the state SGA association

á Continue to offer and expand the student leadership curriculum

 

 

 

 

Planning Continuous Improvement

 

á Double the participation numbers from this year to next year.

á Continue to gradually increase funding from SGA to purchase equipment that diversify offerings

á Seek new opportunities for students to participate in

            á Serve as committee members on ad hoc committees when the opportunity arises

            á Encourage more students to become part of H.A.L.O.

á Work with other groups on campus to provide opportunities for students

á Address the needs of diversifying organizations and adding to the student organizations on

campus

á Continue events started by Black Student Union in the 2003-2004 year

 

á Utilize the student center as primary event site for individual events.

 

á Incorporate intramural class and officiating class into event planning, management, and evaluation of more events.

 

á Continue to provide the entire student body with events and activities that allow each and every student a chance to socialize, exercise, compete, and relieve stress in a fun and organized environment.

 

áContinue to be active in all campus activities as they relate to H.A.L.O.
