Learner Success
á Cosmetology:
á Attending 5 Saturdays and late hours on Mondays during the year to meet student and customer needs
á Attended State VICA competition with Hair and Nails; 2nd in hair, 3rd in nails. One student won 1st in VICA t-shirt design.
á Adjusted the student kit to better meet our teaching needs and the student learning needs
á Arranged for various companies to educate students with new products & techniques.
á Students went to the grade schools to assist with after school programs.
á Students & faculty assisted with 8th grade career fair
á Janice Nunn held a 5 clock hour sanitation class for Cosmetology faculty and students to meet State Board criteria
á Students and faculty assisted with high school career fairs in Dighton, Montezuma, Copeland, Kenneth Henderson, and Garden City High School
á Faculty attended college recruiting nights in service area towns
á Students and Instructors participated in Hispanic Day
á Participated with Lakin Middle School Field Day
á Developed strategies to help prepare the students for their written and practical exams.

á DPS Criminal Justice
á CJ Student Competency and Success Program. Fully implemented department competency testing:
á Criminal Justice Academy. Successful implementation of the Garden City High School Criminal Justice Academy 4th year with senior class. Curriculum re-evaluated and updated. Only program of itÕs kind in Kansas.
á Criminal Justice Competition Team. Placed 2nd at Regionals Fall 2003. 1st at Barton County Invitational Spring 2003.
á Graduate Success Monitoring. Approximately 90% of 2003-2004 graduates are either employed in the field or are continuing education.
á Advising and Counseling. Student advising and counseling for full, part-time and former students including FIRE, law enforcement and criminal justice majors. Current majors (including part-time) are approximately 130.
á Core Competencies and Syllabi. Current course syllabi for public safety division is under continual revision to stay current.
á Since August of 2002, faculty, staff and students have hosted 1,015 visitors totaling approximately 201.75 hours. A total of 274 faculty and DPS students assisted.
á Recruitment. Since August of 2002 to December 9, 2003, 276 students & faculty assisted with 63 tours accommodating 1,050 visitors to the department and school special workshops for schools and citizens. A total of 202.35 hours were involved with these projects.
á Range 3000 purchased December 2003 after successful $70,000 fundraising effort of DPS Advisory Council.
á Enrollment is increasing for criminal justice
á Strategic Team Building (now required for all majors.)
á Awards Banquet Spring of each year.
á Updates. Equipment, hardware and software updates ongoing with continual implementations into curriculum to remain current.
á DPS Website. Website work is in progress.
á Staying on top of the market. Continual monitoring of current and upcoming training topics to provide for our community partners and current students.
á Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. Our students now participate as ÔactorsÕ in training exercises for basic training cadets. 1st time a community college has been asked to a part of this unique training opportunity.

Cosmetology
á Participated with the college and community by being involved in several parades.
á Students and faculty participated in the GCCC Endowment Association Phonathon
á Advertised the program through radio spots, newspapers and flyers to increase enrollment and clientele
á Arranged for local salons owners and salons to visit with the students on job placement
á Reorganized Advisory Board; utilized them with classroom activities and projects and preparing students for VICA competition
á Added six shampoo chairs to our clinic floor area, programs for the Cyber-Imaging, and a new facial chair
á Replaced worn out equipment in dispensary
á Obtained a new laptop computer, projector, and ÒSmart BoardÓ to teach our curriculum
á Met with the Advisory Committee to problem solve program needs
Fire Science
á All HazMat equipment, fire suits, and fire trucks needed by the program have been provided by GCFD
á Provided in-service for adjuncts in Maestro and the paperwork procedures
á Created a work station with a computer for adjuncts to use
DPS / Criminal Justice
á DPS Advisory Council. Active and Involved, this council meets monthly throughout the year.
á Campus Cooperation. Working with John Deere Ag Tech, Science Department, Allied Health, Drafting, Electricity, Plumbing, B&I on a variety of programs and projects .
á CJ System Cooperation. Active representation and cooperation with the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System, Kansas Peace OfficerÕs Association, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, Fire MarshallÕs Office, Fire Association, Emergency Management systems, Emergency Communications and Southwest Kansas Public Service agencies in a coordinated approach to training and communications through Team-T development.
á Developed and Implemented unique, innovative TEAM-T Program. Continuing development and coordination of programs to meet constant challenges with Homeland Security needs.
á Developing of Team-TC (Citizen version of Team-T). Train the Trainer Self Protection now has 25+ instructors trained in Kansas. TTC hosted a campus security/safety meeting, bankers robbery prevention training seminar. Working on additional seminars for public entities, medical, insurance, banking and businesses as an integral part of Homeland Security. TTC is currently actively monitoring the new CCW bill at the state level for incorporation into TTC training.
á National and State-wide Agency Support - Recruitment. Former students, in-service students and friends of the department, which are scattered throughout the nation, continue to be the number one recruiting tool for the department. Active involvement with the following organizations: Kansas Narcotic OfficerÕs Association., Kansas Peace OfficerÕs Association (Training Committee); Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center; American Criminal Justice Association, APCO (Dispatch Association) plus others as required.
á Campus Involvement: We continue to participate in campus and state committees and events: Committees include Disciplinary Review, Design Team, Division Directors, Core Committee, Campus Security, Computer Committee, Faculty Senate, Recruiting Committee, Professional Negotiations, Academic Review, Center for Teaching and Learning, AQIP, Actively working with the Garden City High School and Holcomb HS Criminal Justice Programs.
