ACCOMPLISHMENTS for 2003-2004

 

Learner Success:

• Had 16 Academic All-Americans
• Participate in Valley of Sun Bowl game in Football
• Participate in Final 4 WBB
• Captured Region VI West Division Championship in Baseball
• Region VI WBB Champions
• Over 12,000 credit hours enrolled by students/athletes
• Increased participation numbers from this past year to this year
• Had largest recruiting class (365)
• Worked with elementary after school program
• Building on traditions and expanding them
• Implementation of study tables
• Cross-training was accomplished
• Attend national convention
• Attend camps
• Conducted weekly attendance checks and grade checks every 4 weeks
• Focused on increasing teams GPA

 

Communication:

• High-plains B-Ball Tournament
• 3-I involvement
• BAA noon luncheon
• Game sponsorship with local businesses: with FB, MBB & WBB
• Hosted Broncbuster Buddy Day (FB & BB)
• Established working relationships with faculty
• Staff communication with students is positive
• Increased better lines of communication among staff
• Increased the communication between Athletic Training Staff and physicians (physicals & personal contact with chiropractor – etc.
• All coaches/instructors have rapport with and support of other coaches

Responsive To Community and Students:

• Developed & improved Athletic Dept. web site & KJCCC web site

Faculty and Staff Development:

• Attended Football Clinic (Kansas City) - Football Staff were guest lecturers
• SW Kansas basketball clinic (Holcomb) - Basketball/Coaches were guest speakers
• Head Athletic Trainer attended Sports Medicine Conference in Minneapolis, MN
• Proper communication is needed between faculty, coaches and staff to be successful (this is being done just fine)
• Staff has provided public speakers for community
• Staff certified in CPR and 1^st Aid
• All staff is working with A.Q.I.P.
• Developed trust and loyalty with each athletic program
• Good rapport and support among staff in department
• Attended National Coaches Convention

Strengthening College Processes:

• Inform community of our fitness center (wellness) – more P.R.
• Need more work study positions
• Promote leadership on campus and in each respective department
• Improve cooperation with faculty and staff members to increase effectiveness of the athletic retention program
• Change GCCC class academic schedule somewhat so some athletic teams could practice in mornings
• Replace bleachers in front and move to back gym
• We need a second weight room so we are all able to develop
• Implement a more successful method of communication with coaches about athlete’s health
• Reduce expenses of the athletic department by reducing the amount of money spent on insurance claims

 

Service to the Community:

• Provide entertainment
• Provide help with county-wide Reading Carousel
• Work with after-school programs in elementary schools
• Help with Bloodmobile
• Improve curb appeal with patio and landscaping
• We need to improve building recognition with name signs
• Public speakers available (any time)
• Providing an open entry and open exit, work-out on your own time, schedule and pace
• Maintain a collaborative relationship with area schools
• Offer more 8-week block courses
