Accomplishments for 2003-2004

 

Learner Success

 

 

Strengthening College Processes

á      Provided refresher in-service on Discover and Compass programs for BEC staff

á      Maintained staff development opportunities for adjunct faculty (in-service and specialized training)

á      On campus mail-all access made available for director

á      Downloaded School Maestro on directorÕs and facultyÕs computers

á      Collaborated with Registrar to inform outreach students of accessing the Student Web

á      Director serves as a member of the GCCC Endowment Association and is the chairman of the mini-grant committee

á      Director served as English mentor for first year high school English instructors who teach for GCCC in the outreach program

á      Maintained communication with high school and college campus administrations during transition in relocation of the high school students at Scott City, including ITV access

 

 

Service to the Community

á      Maintained collaboration with CECS units to increase number of new and informative seminars/workshops for various community age groups keeping in mind a variety of time frames

á      Offered summer KidsÕ College enrichment classes

á      Reinforced the ceiling structure holding the folding wall between rooms in the multipurpose room at the BEC

á      Collaborating with the local community to pave BEC parking lot

á      Maintained presence and participated in Chamber activities, K-State extension programs and the Scott Community Wellness Coalition.

á      Collaborated with Allied Health and the Prevention Center to present an information booth at the Scott County Wellness Fair

á      Participated in Walk Kansas

á      Produces and distributes 3 newsletters throughout the year

Goals for 2004-2005

 

Helping Students Learn

á      Maintain number of credit hour class offerings for both traditional and non-traditional students

á      Collaborate with USD 466 to utilize current computer reading program

á      Increase number of science and history class offerings

á      Maintain ESL opportunities

á      Make students aware of computer lab availability

á      Revitalize the senior computer lab

 

 

 

Leading and Communicating

á      Establish training for utilization of advisory board

á      Recognize the need for a local computer tech to maintain the BEC computer lab on an emergency basis

á      Update BEC staff on Compass and Discover programs

á      Participate on the Admissions/Recruiting Team for the Datatel conversion

á      Maintain staff development opportunities for adjunct faculty (in-service and specialized training)

á      Maintain communication with CECS units to provide new seminars and workshops in the Scott City community

á      Post BEC information on GCCC website

á      Update BEC brochure

 

 

 

Service to the Community

á      Partner with local community learning center to address student education needs

á      Director maintains presence as member of local Chamber and Scott Community Wellness Coalition

Projections: 2006+

 

á      Pursue accreditation of the BEC to offer Associate Degree in General Studies

á      Establish the BEC as an area wide information center for educators, students and business owners by supplying videos, books, computer programs, and other resources

á      Create and organize a local writing center

á      Establish a tutoring service

á      Remove the slanted roof tiles from the front south side of the BEC and brick that area

á      Add an awning across the front of the BEC to improve appearance and safety
