WWW Resources
Information on the many topics included within the general subject of education may be found in books, in magazine or journal articles, and in computer networked resources such as our CD network or the World Wide Web. Many of the indexes useful in finding information on these topics are not specialized for education.
Other guides in our reference pages may also help you. Look at our general library guide. It provides information on finding books, magazines and journal articles, borrowing from other libraries, and using reserves set up by faculty.
Following is information on resources more specific to education.

Mental Measurements Yearbook - descriptions and reviews of standardized tests used in education and counseling - new editions are issued periodically, but the previous editions must be retained because the new editions do not cumulate material from previous editions. Also see Buros Insitute WWW link on this page (R 153.93 B967m)
The Encyclopedia of Education. 2d ed. 2003. McMillian. (R 370 E56)

Note: material in the First Search and Infotrac database collections are accessible at many Kansas libraries, and through the Kansas Library Card; material in Lexis-Nexis is only available at GCCC library.
Education Index - more current than ERIC and covers many publications not in ERIC although ERIC also covers publications not in the EI; a run of back issues are available at GCCC, but the index is not currently maintained.
Expanded Academic ASAP : General interest; full text of selected titles; on Infotrac.
Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe : full text of newspapers; full text of court decisions and laws for all states and federal.
Periodical Abstracts : General interest; about 2,000 magazines and journals indexed, 1,000 have full text; on FirstSearch .
Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature : print format; found in most libraries; indexes about 200 popular magazines; no abstracts or full text.
Sirs : General interest; full text of selected magazine and newspaper articles; CD at GCCC.
Please remember that when the full text of an article displayed on one of these services is not available, you must use the citation (journal name, article title, article author, publication date, volume, issue, page number) to retrieve the article. Lists of periodicals in the GCCC library and other nearby libraries are available. Interlibrary loan may be used to borrow articles from journals owned by other libraries - forms are available in the GCCC library - there will be a 1 or 2 week wait. You will not find books in most periodical indexes although you will find book reviews which appear in periodicals.
When searching any of these services, you should type a word or words which
describe your topic. None of these services understand "natural language."
Do not type in questions or sentences. If the results are not what you expect,
try to think of different terms -- use textbooks, class notes, and cross references
you find in the subject indexes to help you find subject words to search. The
results list from your search will display a title, author, and magazine or
journal reference. To see more detail follow directions on the screen, use the
help option on the screen, or ask our staff for help.
