Broncbuster Lady Soccer Wins Futsal Tournament

Dodge City, KS- When Broncbuster Head Soccer Coach Jeff Huffman decided to enter his women's soccer team in the competitive Dodge City Futsal Tournament, he saw it as an opportunity to show his players, the Garden City soccer community and the athletic administration that the program's inaugural season was firmly behind them and that they were moving on to better things ahead.

Mission accomplished.

After losing in their second game of the day, the Lady Broncbusters rattled off four straight victories to capture the Spring 2006 edition of the Dodge City Futsal Tournament. The team scored 19 goals on the day, while allowing only seven goals on the day. Second Team All Region performer Jackie Cojon-born in Guatemala- had seven goals and three assists on the day. Team Captain Ashley Olson-a Fort Collins , CO native-had five goals and seven assists on the day while Britney Carter added five goals and two assists on the day.

Coach Huffman states, “The Dodge City Futsal Tournament is regionally recognized as the most competitive winter tournament west of Wichita, “ Huffman said. “The talent level we saw at the tournament is representative of what we saw in the Fall. Our goal as a women's soccer team is to improve from our first season. One of the way's I decided to expedite this process was by having the women train over the winter with our men's team. Their improvement was evident throughout the tournament via their speed of play and overall possession on the tight confines of the Futsal Court .”
