BUSTERS GET FIRST COMMITMENTS FROM LANSING , KANSAS

Saturday, October 28, 2006 was a day Head Soccer Coach Jeff Huffman knew was going to be a busy one for himself. His men's team was competing at the Hummer Sports Park in a Jayhawk Conference semifinal match that afternoon. Earlier that morning however, he was going to make his way across town to the Governor's Cup to see many female players in competition.

The investment in attending the Governor's Cup paid off as both Kristen Huffman and Kayla Pina of Lansing High School and of the Leavenworth United Thunder are the first two commitments of the class of 09' for the Lady Buster soccer program.

Huffman is a three year letter winner for the Lansing Lions, where her team won a conference championship during her sophomore season. In her junior campaign, Lansing advanced to the second round of the state playoffs. Huffman has served as a two year starter at the right outside midfield position. She has played for Leavenworth United during her junior and senior seasons as an outside midfielder and as a center back. At the U-17 age level, her Thunder team won the competitive Heartland Tournament (KS).

Pina has been a starter since her freshman season at Lansing high school, enjoying the same high school team accomplishments as Huffman. Pina has played in all of the midfield positions for the Lions and also has two years of Kansas ODP experience. She was committed to the Thunder from the U-10 thru U-18 age levels, playing all over the field and serving as team captain during her U-18 season.

“These two ladies have the ability to play in several positions on the field,” Head Women's soccer coach Jeff Huffman states. From their play at both the club and high school level, they have an understanding of their role in these positions. Once the season starts, I will take a look at the personnel I have and decide where it is best to plug these ladies at on the field.”
