LADY BUSTER'S SIGN FIRST EVER NEW MEXICO RECRUIT
The Garden City Community College Men's Soccer team has had a lot of success in two seasons dipping into the state of New Mexico , getting nine players from their southwestern neighbor in their first two seasons. The women's soccer program did not reap those same rewards-until now.
Brittni Jimenez, a 5'10 goalkeeper out of Clovis , NM became the 11 th women's commitment for the Fall 2007 season. Jimenez was born in nearby Portales , NM and was a two sport athlete in high school-participating in track and field as well. Jimenez was a four year varsity player, playing her first two years on the field. Her junior season she shared time in goal and played as a defender as well, earning 2 nd Team All District honors as a defender in her junior season. Her senior season, she was tabbed a First Team All District goalkeeper for the Clovis High School Wildcats. Clovis is a class 5A school, as 5A is the highest classification in New Mexico .
In addition to soccer, Jimenez actually participated in varsity track and field for five years-which included her eighth grade year. Her girls track and field team took second in the Class 5A state track meet her senior year, as she participated in the state track meet in the long jump.
“We were in definite need of a goalkeeper for the fall season, not just a shot stopper,” Head Women's Coach Jeff Huffman states. “With her field playing experience, Brittni brings to the table the knowledge of being a “sweeper/keeper”. These abilities make her more of a complete goalkeeper, as this is the type of goalkeeper that is needed in the Jayhawk Conference and one that will make the team more successful
