LADY BUSTER BECOMES FIRST TO SIGN WITH FOUR YEAR SCHOOL

Their have been a lot of first's when it comes to Britney Carter and her affiliation with the sport of soccer here in Garden City. She was part of the first middle school girls team at local Kenneth Henderson Middle School . She was part of the first team of any sort that played on the new turf back in 2003. She also was a part of the first ever Lady Buster college soccer team in the Fall of 2005. You can now add another first to that list.

Carter has signed a national letter of intent to play her final two years of college soccer at NAIA William Penn University , an institution that is located in Oskaloosa , Iowa and competes in the 8 team Midwest Classic Conference.

Carter, a born and raised Garden City resident, was a four year varsity starter at Garden City High School and was an Honorable Mention All-Wac performer in her junior campaign. She was a starter for two seasons at Garden City Community College, playing in the goalkeeper position her freshman season and as a left outside back in her sophomore season.

Carter will receive a 1/3 athletic scholarship to play for the Statesmen. The rest of her financial package will be decided over the next 4-6 weeks. Statesmen Head Coach Greg Walter called Garden City Community College Head Women's Soccer Coach Jeff Huffman back in November, as Huffman stated that Carter was a player he should look into. After seeing video tape of Carter play, Coach Walter invited Carter for a campus visit. Carter visited the campus in December and made her decision in February.

Coach Walter had this to say about Carter's commitment: “I am looking forward to Brittney playing for us this fall. She is going to bring a lot of experience to the women's soccer program here at William Penn University . We are going to be a young team next season with only one senior. Brittney is going to be counted on right away as a team leader and a player who many of my freshmen and sophomores will look up to. The experience of playing at Garden City CC will help her be an impact player right away next season. This past season we won our conference tournament and went to the regional playoffs. However, we lost in the first round of the playoffs. I am going to be counting on Brittney to help us win our conference and go to the NAIA Women's Soccer

National Championship Tournament.”

I am pleased that one of my four sophomores will be moving on to play at the four year level, “Huffman states. President Carol Ballantyne put the soccer program in place with southwestern Kansas student athletes in mind. I find it only fitting our first player to move on is a Garden City resident.”
