Own goal helps GCCC

Sometimes good things just fall into a team's lap. For the Garden City Community College men's soccer team, that opportunity came Wednesday in a 1-0 win over Dodge City .

Seeing a different style team than the first time the Broncbusters faced Dodge City this season, the only goal Garden City could come up with Wednesday was with the help of Dodge City . As a battle for ball control in front of the Buster goal went on nearly 20 minutes into the second half, the Busters score came on an own goal at the 65th minute when the ball ricocheted off a Conquistador and went into the net.

Buster coach Jeff Huffman said he couldn't see who the ball went off of. It was all Garden City would need to come away with the win.

"(The Conqistadors) put a lot of numbers behind the ball," Huffman said. "It was a different team from the first time we played them, and we knew they would be. They were more defensive."

With the win the Busters (9-0-1) will travel to No. 4 Johnson County for a 4 p.m. start. It will be the second ranked foe the Busters will face this season. GCCC tied No. 8 Barton County 0-0 Sept. 21.

"We're feeling confident," Huffman said. "We feel that Barton is a better team than Johnson."
