Alliance Causes Unique Commitment
When
Coach Huffman started dipping into the Albuquerque soccer base,
he never could have imagined a player signing like this. Chad Mitchell,
22, played elite level club soccer through his senior year of high
school. Since then he has stayed very active in the local soccer
scene and now, feels it is time to demonstrate his abilities at
the college level. With this commitment, the Busters have the ability
to have seven players from Albuquerque , New Mexico on the roster
next fall.
Mitchell
is former Highland High School teammates with current Broncbuster
Derek Schmille. While at Highland , Mitchell was a part of
the varsity team for the Hornets during his sophomore and senior
years-missing his junior year due to injury. Mitchell was
named to the All District 1 st team as a midfielder during his sophomore
campaign. Upon his return during his senior season- he earned
1 st team All District, 1 st team All State and All Tournament team
honors as a forward for the Hornets.
Mitchell
played his club soccer for the Albuquerque United Futbol Club (AUFC)
84 whom he captained and lead to a second place finish in state
cup. Mitchell was also a member of the Umbro Elite 84 who
he also captained and led to a 2 nd place finish twice in the New
Mexico State Cup.
Coach
Gorton states, “I am glad that we were able to get Chad .
He has not played at an extreme competitive level for a while but
is a player that can be a leader for us. Chad has played with
and against some of the seniors that lead Division 1 University
of New Mexico to a National Championship appearance last fall.
Chad will only have a year with us because of eligibility, but we
feel that one year will be worth it.”
