Men's Soccer Gets Fifth Recruit
It's
getting to the point where one does not need to ask the Garden City
Community College soccer coaching staff where they are finding their
men's out-of-state recruits. That is because all fingers are getting
used to pointing west. Albuquerque , New Mexico is home of the fifth
commitment for the Fall 2006 Broncbuster squad, as the soccer office
has received a commitment from Javier Delgado. If all holds true,
Javier would also be one of at least five players from Albuquerque
, New Mexico on the Broncbuster roster next fall.
“When
I came here from Williams College , coach Huffman states, it was
all about building contacts and getting connections in an area of
the country I was not familiar with. I was able to sell the program
to one of the coaches of the Nike Rush program, as that contact
has essentially manifested itself into a strong Albuquerque recruiting
base for us.”
Though
Javier does not play for the Rush, he currently plays for the 2nd
ranked U-18 club team-according to www.nationalsoccerranking.com-
in New Mexico in the South Valley Vipers. Javier is no stranger
to the student athletes from Albuquerque already on the Broncbuster
roster, as he played against many of them in high school.
The
5'9 135 lb midfielder has helped lead the Vipers to three State
Cup Final appearances. He also was a First Team All District selection
his Junior Year and a Second Team All District selection his senior
year at Albuquerque High School .
Assistant
Coach Steve Gorton states, “Javier brings a calm and collective
style to the Busters. He is a smooth player and plays-what I would
consider- a simple brand of soccer.”
