2008
Season Outlook
The 2008 Lady Broncbusters look to improve on last year’s record breaking season and finally capture that elusive Region VI championship. Head Coach Phil Terpstra returns 7 sophomores, including 4 starters, from a team that won 30 games and shattered the previous team homerun record by 20, hitting 54 last season. 2nd Team All-American Becky Diehl will lead this pack for her sophomore campaign. “Becky was a terror to opposing pitchers last year” said Coach Terpstra. “Teams will want to pitch around her this spring, however, we have full confidence that anyone we put in the lineup can come through in the clutch.”
Other key returning starters are centerfielder Cassidee Le Prey and pitcher/first baseman Joni Stegman, both of whom were all region performers during their freshman season. “Joni and Cassidee performed well for us last year and we have high hopes that this year will prove to be even better” Coach Terpstra said. Kirsten Bahr a transfer from Idaho CC, will come in and start at 2nd base for the Busters, providing stellar defense and a solid bat. “Kirsten was a great find for us and she will add leadership to this year’s team” stated Terpstra. The coaching staff will also look for sophomores Marie Zoglman, Lindsey Clay and Ashley Zanghi to have breakout years in 2008.
Adding to this mix of veterans is a talented freshmen class that will be expected to contribute immediately in their first collegiate season. Out-of-state players Megan Hamilton, Taylor Cange, Kayla Jeanjaquet and Tracey Stefanski will add to this programs success. Joining the squad from our own back yard in western Kansas are Shayla Specht and Tori Nuzum. “This freshman group is very talented and will make a big impact right away.” mentioned Coach Terpstra. “This year’s squad had a good fall season and they have been working extremely hard in the off-season. If they continue to improve during the spring season, this squad could be very successful in 08.” |
