Support
The
Garden City Community College Football Program regularly carries
out a commitment to helping student-athletes meet their responsibilities.
Coaches and the academic support staff the student-athletes the
skills they need to successfully complete their college courses.
Due to the student-athlete's demanding schedule, use of time management
and study skills are critical to success. This support continues
until the day he or she earns a degree or transfers.
Garden
City Community College student athletes, and other students, can
count on a wide range of academic support programs and personnel.

The Mary Jo Williams Comprehensive Learning Center
The GCCC Career and Counseling Resource Center
The
Student Support Service Program
The
comprehensive learning center, open day and night, provides peer
and professional tutors, computer access and assistance outside
class in subjects across the curriculum. The counseling center offers
professional guidance and assistance in all academic and career
topics. For those who quality, the federally-funded SSS Program
provides a series of services to help students succeed in college,
and operates as one of three GCCC Trio Programs.
Academic
Advising
A
faculty advisor is assigned to each student at the time of his or
her initial enrollment. This advisor is the first and foremost expert
on academic matters within the chosen major. Student-athletes consult
with their faculty advisors for help with registration, schedule
changes, declaring or changing majors and major requirements.
Mandatory
Study Hall
Student-athletes
are required to attend three to five one-hour study hall sessions
per week. The importance of time management and studying on task
are vital to the success of the student-athlete.
Tutoring
Tutors
are provided to promote academic success among Br0ongcbuster student-athletes.
Tutors are available throughout the day. In addition, there are
a variety of tutors available by appointment. Tutoring services
are free to all students, day and night, at GCCC's Mary Williams
Comprehensive Learning Center .
Weekly
Grade Checks
Academic
performance is monitored both formally and informally by the academic
support staff and football coaches. Progress reports are sent to
instructors of each student-athlete. Instructors return the reports
with information on attendance, class participation and grades,
plus general comments.
Access
to Internet / Computer Lab
Computers
are available in the CLC for student-athletes to use. Garden City
also operates many internet/computer labs on campus.
