Baseball Releases Spring
Schedule
GARDEN CITY,
KAN.—Head Baseball Coach Chris
Finnegan has released the 2008 Broncbuster Baseball schedule. The schedule
features the new Kansas Jayhawk Community College
Conference West (KJCCC West) format that was adopted at the end of the 2007
season.
In the past, each KJCCC West team traveled to every other
conference team once in order to complete the 32 conference games
necessary. This season, each KJCCC West college will host four other
conference teams for weekend double-headers. This season the Busters will
host Butler, Dodge City, Pratt and Colby. In return,
that means the Busters will travel to Barton
County, Hutchinson,
Seward County
and Cloud County. The home schools will be
reversed for those contests in 2009.
Garden City will be playing 23 of its 56 games within the
friendly confines of Williams Stadium, the best on-campus facility in junior
college baseball. The Busters are slated to host (games are in
parenthesis): Brown Mackie (2), Lamar (2), Lamar (1), Otero (1) and
Northeastern (1).
The single contests against Lamar, Otero and Northeastern
are part of a Region VI (Kansas) vs. Region IX
(Colorado)
tournament which Garden City is hosting. Along with Garden City the other
Region VI teams will be Dodge City and Barton County.
In 2007 the Broncbusters finished one game shy of the JUCO
World Series in Grand Junction,
Colorado. Last year’s
championship game was the second for Garden City in only three years. The
Busters completed the season with a record of 37-27.
