Garden City Community College

Athletic Hall of Fame

ARTICLE I
Name

The name of the organization shall be the Garden City Community College Athletic Hall of Fame

ARTICLE II
Purpose

Section 1. The purpose of the Garden City Community College Athletic Hall of Fame will be to honor individuals who have distinguished themselves by their “legendary” performances in the annuals of garden City Community College history.

Section 2. Former coaches and other athletic officials who did not participate in athletics at Garden City Community College may be recognized for their outstanding work on behalf of the Garden City Community College Athletic Department.

Section 3. Honorary members (individuals who neither participated in, coaches, nor served the Garden City Community College Athletic Department in an official capacity) may be selected because of their support of, contributions to, or interest in Garden City Community College Athletics.

ARTICLE III
Eligibility for Selection

To be eligible to receive the award, the candidate shall posses or shall have possessed, in addition to outstanding ability in a sport, other personal qualities such as sportsmanship, character, and integrity, and be one who has brought distinction to Garden City Community College. Normally, not more than four individuals will be nominated in any year 9excluding honorary members).

ARTICLE IV
Qualifications for Nomination

Section 1. An athlete shall have completed his/her playing career at least five years prior to becoming eligible for nomination.

Section 2. A coach who has served at Garden City Community College shall not be eligible until five years after he/she has terminated his/her services.

Section 3. Honorary members/contributors may be selected during any year without time restrictions.

ARTICLE V
Research and Selection


Those to be inducted into the Garden City Community College Athletic Hall of Fame will be selected by a Research and Selection Committee. The committee will be composed of not less than six individuals; two representing the Garden City Community College Athletic Department, two representing the Broncbuster Athletic Association, and two former athletes.

ARTICLE VI
Nominations

The research and Selection Committee will hold an announced meeting the first week in January each year. Nominations and support information will be accepted in the Garden City Community College athletic office prior to the January meeting. An official coordinator for the Research and Selection Committee will be designated by the Athletic Director and duties will be to conduct the meeting, coordinate the selection process, and notify each honoree. The coordinator will also be responsible for all details involved in the banquet and awards ceremony. The coordinator is responsible for coordinating and directing the meeting, however, is not a voting member.

ARTICLE VII
Induction Ceremony

Individuals to be inducted into the Garden City Community College Athletic Hall of Fame will be announced two weeks prior to the Homecoming Basketball game. Each honoree must be willing to accept the honor and attend the awards ceremony. A banquet will be held annually during the week of homecoming to officially induct the honorees into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
